The Rotary Club of Absecon-Galloway donated dictionaries for all the third graders in Absecon School System. The Club has been doing for several years now donating dictionaries both in Absecon and Galloway schools. The books were personally distributed recently by the club members at each of the third grader's classes.
The goal of the Dictionary Project is to improve the reading ability and comprehension of all children, everywhere. It is our goal to encourage children to use dictionaries so that they will be able to use the English language effectively. A student cannot do his or her best work without a dictionary. By providing this tool we assist teachers in making all students active readers, good writers and creative thinkers. Students can use the dictionaries throughout their school careers.
Several Rotar Clubs in District 7640, which includes all of South Jersey area have donated over 25,000 dictionaries to third graders in various schools.
Students were delighted to received their own copy and promptly followed the intruction to write their name on the book and lookup their first word that one of our club members asked them to do. The first student who looked up the word from the dictionary was given a small prize as well.
The club is looking forward to continuing this great program in the years to come.
