Bill Gates Addresses the Rotary Conference in San Diego
The Bill
& Melinda Gates Foundation and Rotary International and the British and
German governments announced an injection of $630 Million to help keep the cause
of Polio eradication alive. The crippling disease is still a prevalent
endemic in four countries: Nigeria, India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
Williamstown Rotary Club's first International District
Governor and a club member, Jozsef L. de Kovacs, is sponsoring the
program. The Williamstown Club, which is over 80 years old, has a history
supporting Polio. In 1988, Past President Robert Hennessy, was the first
from the Williamstown Club to sponsor such a program. In the nothern state
of Kano, India, more than 30 percetn of children are still unvanccinated and at
risk. Current President Lou Miller stated "We cannot let these children
die. We must help them keep this disease under control."
